Lantern Parade 2014 -Lanterns and Tree Dressing

Lanterns

Lanterns

Following on from the successful 2013 event, the 2014 Lantern Parade will be held at 4pm on 7th December 2014, starting in the Park, and finishing at Town Gate, Guiseley.   We are very pleased to be holding this year’s event in conjunction with people from three local churches, Guiseley Baptists, Guiseley Methodists and Guiseley St Oswalds.

Lanterns

Full details of the event will be announced in November, along with the RSVP invitations.   However, we will be asking people to bring their own lanterns, and thought you might like a little ‘nudge’, with half term coming up, that it might be an activity to be thinking about.

We know that Otley Courthouse are holding lantern making workshops, for Otley’s parade, on 29th October and 1st November – they have told us that they are happy for us to mention it to Guiseley people.  The Otley session do need to be booked (29th is filling up fast) and cost £5.

The three churches will also possibly be doing lantern making workshops with their own children and youth groups.

Advent Tree Dressing

A tradition we also wanted to revive this year is advent tree dressing: so we will be holding a ‘dressing’ session on 29th November 2014, between 2-3pm in the Park.  We will be dressing the two silver birch trees that stand on the top flat area, with weatherproof decorations – which can range from torn strips of seasonally coloured cloth tied on branches, to gold painted pine cones hangings, and strings of bunting; simple, in traditional colours is probably best.  The decorations will stay up until Twelfth Night – come wind, snow, or ‘beasties’ .   Again, making decorations may be a half-term activity alongside those of Halloween.
