2019 Parkinson’s Park Events

Our 2019 Events will be as follows: over the year we may well add in new events and confirm dates when we know them.  We’ve also added several significant local and national anniversaries.

24th March – 10.30am Great British Spring Clean

Spring – Wildflower Planting (date to be confirmed)

June – Christmas Lights Summer Market

22nd – 29th June – Tales Told Festival Event (29th – firework display at 10pm)

Summer – Bog Garden Minder Team

1st September – Children’s Gala (Theme Jurassic Parkinson’s Park)

 20th October – Apple Day

November – Guiseley Christmas Lights Switch On

1st – 24th  December -Add your own decorations to the Advent Tree

15th December – Lantern Parade

ANNIVERSARIES

1069 – 950 years since the Harrying of the North.  The Normans devastated settlements in the North of England, including Guiseley.

1719 – 300 years since the Manor of Guiseley & Esholt was sold by The Duke of Norfolk to Guiseley Freeholders, including the park lands.  The same year saw the publication of Robinson Crusoe – the first modern novel.

1919 – 100 years since the first Remembrance Day and two minuites silence.  Jonathan Peate gave Nethermoor Park to Guiseley UDC with stipulations about use as a cricket field.

1929 – 90 years since people first tasted Harry Ramsden’s fish and chips – opened 20th December 1928.

6th June 1945 – 75th Anniversary of D Day

5th June 1949 – Noddy first appeared 70 years ago

20th July 1969 – 50th Anniversary of the First Moon Landing
