Details for Lantern Parade 2015

Parade Route

Parade Route

Shhhssss,  don’t mention the weather.   Here is the route for today’s Lantern Parade – unless it absolutly pours with rain,  the event will go ahead.   Please try and keep to the pavement as much as possible.  If any cars that park on the pavement on the route, especially down Kelcliffe Lane could not do so between 4pm and 4.30pm, that would be much appreciated.  the Police have been informed of the route.

Please gather for the procession from 3.45pm,  we set off from the Park at 4pm.    Bring something to hang on the Advent tree and make a wish .  The event will have marshalls in hi-viz jackets, together with fire blanket and first aid, if it is required. (Hopefully not.)   There is woodchip down in the Park,  but it is still muddy from all the rain, so good grip footwear advisable.  If anyone cannot join us in the Park, then you are welcome just to come to the cross to sing the carols.

Pick up a carol sheet as you leave the Park,  and please hand it back at the end of the event for use next year.  The Carol Sheets are donated by Embrace.IMG_0748

We now have 10 local people (all being well) who have stepped forward to play the drums,  covering 4 generations.  We’d like to say a big thank you to them, the Parade is all about local people taking part.   They are led by John Franklin King and the group spent an hour on Friday evening learning how to drum the right beat (and the wrong one :-)) in St Oswalds Church.  Competing with the bell ringers.

The lead lantern this year will be provided by Handmade Parade,  and there will be few parade lanterns to handout to anyone who’d like to carry one – so come early for those.  But the basic idea is  to bring your own Lanterns. Continue reading

Roll Up, Roll Up – Drummers Still Needed For Lantern Parade

P1060248We are still looking for 5 drummers for the Lantern Parade – no previous experience is needed.  This is a really important part of the whole atmosphere of the Lantern Parade, and those that did it last year said it was great fun, and have signed up for this year, but we do need some more people.  The drum will be provided, plus tuition on Friday 18th December at 7pm, St Oswalds. email jakirkby@btconnect.com

ADVENT TREE DRESSING – PARKINSON’S PARK,

Hanging decorations on the Advent Tree at the start

Hanging decorations on the Advent Tree

The Advent trees are now ready for decoration in Parkinson’s Park.    Take a walk to the Park and add your own decorations – pieces of fabric in festive colours,  wool wrapping,  home made decorations,  Christmas baubles,  natural materials, whatever you wish.   The tree lights should be on each day from 3.30pm.  We are hoping the trees will give a splendid backdrop to the Lantern Parade start on 20th  December.

Last year, we started Advent tree dressing, in what we hope will become a new Guiseley tradition.

Please be aware that the Park paths are muddy after all the rain, and sturdy boots/wellingtons are necessary.

You can get to the Park, either along Kelcliffe Lane,  or from Netherfield Road on the footpath to the side of Greenshaw Terrace.
